Poomsae Palgwe Som Jang is the 3rd form in the Palgwe series. Tae Kwon Do Poomsae (Forms) are the foundation for the teaching of this Martial Art. A poomsae, is a detailed pattern of defense-and-attack motions and techniques used in traditional martial arts. Poomsae is useful in developing proper kinetics, mental and physical fortitude.

The trigram associated with Palgwe Sam Jang (Palgwe 3) represents Fire. Related to this symbol is also East and the relationship of the Second Daughter. Fire contains a lot of energy. The symbol behind the fire is similar to the symbolism of the water in that both can aid and both can destroy. This form is intended to be performed rhythmically, with some outbursts of energy to reflect fire’s rhythmic and energetic dualism.

Palgwe Sam Jang: Step by Step

      1. 1. Turn left, Step out with left foot into Front Stance, left Low Block.
      1. 2. Moving forward right foot Front Front Stance, Right Middle Punch.
      1. 3. Turn clockwise (180 degrees), stepping out with the right foot into a Front Stance, Right Low Block.
      1. 4. Moving forward left foot Front Stance, Left Middle Punch.
      1. 5. Turn counterclockwise (90 degrees), step with left foot into a Front Stance, Left Low Block.
      1. 6. Step forward with the right foot info a Front Stance, Right High Block.
      1. 7. Step forward with the left foot into a Front Stance, Left High Block.
      1. 8. Step forward with the right foot into a Front Stance, Right High Punch and Yell!
      1. 9. Turn counterclockwise (90 degrees), step with your left foot into a Back Stance, Left Double Knife Hand Middle Block.
      1. 10. Moving forward with the right leg Back Stance, Right Double Knife Hand Middle Block.
      1. 11. Turn clockwise (180 degrees), step out with the right foot into a Back Stance, Right Double Knife hand Middle Block.
      1. 12. Moving forward  left leg Back Stance, Left Double Knife Hand Middle Block.
      1. 13. Turn counterclockwise (90 degrees), step out with the left foot into a Back Stance, Left Outside Middle Block, shift stance to right Back Stance, Right Outside Middle Block.
